    The Basketball Association of America was founded in 1946 by owners of the major ice hockey arenas in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Canada.
  • First Game

    On November 1, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Toronto Huskies hosted the New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens- First Game in NBA History.
  • Color Barrier Broken

    Harold Hunter signed with the Washington Capitols, becoming the first African American to sign a contract with any NBA team in history-April 26, 1950
  • Shot Clock

    To encourage shooting and discourage stalling, the league introduced the 24-second shot clock in 1954.
  • Michael Jordan

    The Chicago Bulls selected Jordan with the third overall pick, in the 1984 draft.
  • Kobe Bryant

    selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
