    The National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) party emerged. The party pushed for nationalism, and used anti-Semitic Ideas
  • Adolf Hitler

    The party changed once Adolf Hitler attended the meeting as a spy for the army before joining
  • Hitler

    HItler declared himself the party's absolute leader. He ordered the formation of an enforcement group, the Sturmabteilung or Brownshirts to deal with opponents
  • Great Depression

    The Great Depression led many German voters to look to more radical parties, such as Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party
  • The Chancellor Deal

    Hindensburg agreed to Hitler and Franz Von Papen to pick advisors and offered the chancellorship to Hitler and inviting him to form a government.
  • Reichstag Fire

    A destructive fire burned the Reichstag building in Berlin. Investigators found flammable material around the building. Hitler used the Reichstag fire to expand his power. The president gave Hitler more power for emergencies (article 48)
  • The Enabling Act

    The Enabling Act allowed Hitler to govern without reference the the Reichstag. They could bypass the constitution, initiate taxes and spending and determine foreign policy without approval

    Hitler gained the support of the German Army by killing several leaders of the SA. Later, President Hindenburg died and Hitler assumed control of the government
  • Rearmanment

    Hitler began his Four-Year Plan, a schedule to prepare the nation's military for war. In 4 years Germany's armed forces boasted more than 900,000 soldiers, 8,000 aircraft and 95 warships
  • The Rhineland

    The Versailles treaty prohibited Germany from stationing any military forces in the area. In March Hitler ordered troops into the Rhineland, in defiance of the treaty
  • New Foreign Policy

    Hitler stressed and need in food and raw materials. Hitler made a military solution, expansion into Eastern Europe.
  • Anshluss

    The Austrian chancellor held a vote on Austrian Independence. Hitler claimed the vote was rigged and had him relinquish his power
  • Czechoslovakia

    Hitler and the other leaders met to resolve the crisis. They signed an agreement approving the Nazi takeover of the Sudetenlan, as long as Hitler wouldn't go further into Czexhoslovakia.
