The Greek philosophers lived around 600 BCE. The ancient greeks broke away from the mythological approch to explain the world.

    The Empedocles suggest Matter was made of the four elements Water, Fire, air and earth.
    Empedocles lived around 450 BCE.
    Empedocles did not live past the age of 60.

    Democritus
    Democritus suggested matter was made of tiny particles which they called "atomos" which means that they are not able to be divided or seperated. They proposed that atomos could be divided down even more. Democritus lived around 400 BCE. Democritus was often cheerful and happy while working, he was then refered to as "the laughing phiosopher".

    Aristotle supported the four element model created by the Empedocles, the aristotle denied the atomic model which was created by Democritus. Aristotle lived around 350 BCE. When aristoles was a yound boy his parents passed away, he then lived with his older sister and husband untill he was of age.
