The city of Peshtigo was set afire when a strong windstorm started the spread of a small group of fires by fanning the blaze out over a million acres of forest land. It ruined 12 towns and left 1,200 dead. -

Torriential downpour caused the South Fork Dam to burst. More the 20 million gallons of water and debris was unleashed crashing on the city. The flood leveled 1,600 homes and killed 2,209 people. -

The storm with 120 mph winds and a storm surge swept over the mostly African-American populated islands off Georgia. Somewhere between 1,000 to 2,000 people were killed in this region. -

Great San Francisco Fire and Earthquake
The estimated 7.7- to 7.9-magnitude temblor broke natural gas mains, which sparked the fires. By the time the fires were put out 500 city blocks and 3,000 lives were taken. About 225,000 people found themselves without a home. -

Hurricane Betsy was the forerunner for Hurricane Katrina. The storm hit New Orleans and flooded the entire downtown area. -
Hurricane Katrina
The Atlantiic category 1 storm that blew across Southern Florida. Katrina killed at least 1,836 people and inflicted damages estimated at around $125 billion.
