The Civil War was a war fought between the North and South. The North was called the Union, while the South called themselves the Confederate. The main conflicts during the war was about the slavery, and wether or not the U.S. should stand together as one nation or split up.
Most people in the north was against slavery. In the south they wanted to retain slavery since they needed it for their plantations. -

Oliver Brown had a daughter who had to walk over a mile to get to her segregated school, although it was a school for white children less than seven blocks away. When Brown tried to put her dauhter into the school for white children only, the principal refused. -

A women who refused to give away her seat to a white man on the bus, which got her arrested. -
Martin Luther King Jr
Martin Luther King Jr was a Civil Rights activist and minister. He organized a demonstration in 1963 which got him arrested, but it still got worldwide attention. It was in august 1963 he got worldknown and famous with the speech "I have a dream", emphasizing his belief that someday all men could be brothers. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a labor law which ended segregation is public places based on religion, color, sex and national origin. This also banned employment discrimination. -
Barack Obama
Barack Obama was the first black president in the U.S history. He got elected in 2008, and in the election in 2012 he got elected again, ehich means he sat as a president for all the 8 years he could. This was revolutionary. He made made the U.S better, and assured the people no discrimination based on color, sexuality or religion would take place.
This all changed when Donald Trump got eleted in 2016. -
Black people getting shot
There has been many causes the past year where black men and women have been shot by police officers for no reason. This has led to many protests and conflicts. All the police officers charged for murder have all been white. This is an example of discrimination and segregation in modern time.
