    Mariposa War One man, James D. Savage, is the beginning of the dispute. Savage was one of the first whites in the Yosemite area , leading the Battalion of Mariposa during the battle. But as they made their way through, the Chowchillas split, spilling only their homes. The Battalion crossed the river to assault the Indians. The Battalion of Mariposa rallied on 1 July. The battle of Mariposa had ended.

    Tule River War The first blood was shed when the Kaweah Indians cruelly massacred a group of settlers. This party, numbered fifteen, was led by Mr. Wood to a lovely spot about six miles east of the present town of Visalia, on the bank of the river Kaweah, where they proposed to establish a settlement. Their numbers are declining in the valley, only a few now left to maintain the language and customs.
