Settling
in 1727 the Chitimacha tribe settled west of the Mississippi River. Most people thought this tribe was destroyed but it was discovered that they were still flourishing and most settled in Charenton, Louisiana. -

Numbers declined so rapidly due to war and disease that only 6 chitimacha families existed until numbers went up -
New settlements
As the Chitimacha was starting to grow, families of the tribe started settling in other places. Around 16-18 families settled around the Grand River but most of the tribe remained in Charenton
