Columbus Discovers the New World

Christophor Columbus sailed off from Spain on the Santa Maria in August of 1492. Instead of landing on what he assumed to be asia, he landed on the bahamas. He came across a group of Native Americans called the Arawaks. The Arawaks greeted Colombus with many things. Colombus thought they were well-built, handsomne people. He also believed that they would make good servants. -
Aug 13, 1521
Hernan Cortes conquers the Aztecs
In may of 1521, Hernan Cortes returned to Tenochtitlan, which is the capital of the Aztec Empire. The city went through a three month seige which caused it to fall. This seige also marked the end of the Atec Empire. Cuauhtemoc, the Emporer, was captured by Cortes' men. Cuauhtemoc was later exucted and Cortes conquered the empire.

Native American TimelineHe was a protector of the Indians. He disagreed with the way that Indians were treated. Barolome thought that Africans should be bought over to be used as slaves. He wrote "Brief Relations of the Destruction of the Indies." This showed how bad the colonist treated the Indians. -

Jamestown was Americas first permanent colony in Virginia. It was founded by 100 English colonist. They colony was almost destoryed by native american attacks, starvation, and diesease, but the newly appointed governer sent in new supplies and people. -
Bacon's Rebllion

Farmers wanted to take more land from the Native Americans. Governer Sir. William Berkely didn't agree with the farmers and this made Bacon angry. Due to Berkely's disagreement with them, they burned Jamestown and killed Indians. -

This war is known as the Seven Years War. It was the last colonial war.

Proclamation of 1763
North American Indian TimelineThe Proclamation states that any English settlement East of the Appalachin Mountains is prohibited. Those already setteld there, have to return east. This has to be done to keep peace with Native Americans. It wes signed by King George III. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty was signed by the representatives of Great Britton and the US. It also ended the American Revolution. The British gave up all their North America land to the US that was east of the MIssissippi River and south of Canada.

This treaty marked the end of an undeclared war that was led by the Shawness. The Shawness fought to stop American expansion into Ohio. -
Louisian Purchase
The Lousianna Purchase The Lousiana Purchase was a land deal made between France and the US. The United States aquired 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River. This cost 15 million dollars. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clarks Historic
President Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an Expedition, thanks to Sacagawea they were able to plot the western torritory. The sioux and Lewis and Clark meet and exchanged their knowledge and their different costumes. -
Tecumesh and the Prophet
North American Indian TimelineTescumesh and The Propher, Teschimesh's brother, founded Prophetstown. They founded this for the Indians who thought that signing treaties with the US would change the way of the Indian life. -
Creek War
North America India TimelineThis war was instigated by General Andrew Jackson. He wanted to end the Creek resistance to give up their land to the US. The Creak Nation was defeted. They lost two thirds of their tribal land. -
Indian Removal Act
North American History TimelineThe US gained ownership of all Indian lands that were east of the Mississippi River. The Indian Removal Act allows the Indian's to be given new land that is west of the Mississippi River, -

Trail of Tears
President Jackson wanted to remove the Cherokee Indian's out of their Native lands. The ones that refused to move, were forcably removed by American Troops. In May, most of them were improssoned in camps. The rest of the Cherokees began an 800-mile march. 4000 Cherokee Indians died.

Gold Discovered in California
North American TimelineJames Marshall is the one who discovered gold in California. He found this gold near Sutter's Fort. When word got around about the founding of the gold, this started the Gold Rush. -
Passage of the Homestead Act
The Homestead Act was passed by congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln. This act made many of the western Native American land available to American settlers

Sand Creek Massacre
North American Indian TimelineCammand by Colonel John Chivington, 750 Colorado volunteers attacked a Cheyenne and Arapaho village in retaliation for the Hungate's. The soldiers did terrible things to the victims. They sliced off womens breasts and cut their vaginas. They cut off fingers and they cut off the men's testicals. Babies were used as target practice. All the dead bodies were left for coyotes and vultures. When the men marched back into Fort Lyon, they were wearing the body parts. -
Diminished Buffalo Herds
North American Indian Timeline
Under the command of Captain Francis Dodge, the Buffalo Soliders killed 10 Mescarleo Apaches and took 25 ponies. -
Battle of Little Big Horn
George Armstrong Custer and 250 of his soldiers attack of crazy horse and sitting bull at the Little Big Horn. 210 of those men, and Custer himself, are killed. They were unaware of mass sioux army of 2,000-4,000 men.

Nez Perce War
Some American deaths occurred along the Salmon River that the Nez Perce commited. The Nez Perce War happened when the US army responded to this. To keep the battle from happening on a reservation, 800 Nez Perce fled 1,500 miles. They were later caught near the Canadian border and all though the US government promised to return them to their homeland, they were sent to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.
