A peaceful band of Southern Cheyenne and Apapahoe Native Americans are massacred by Colonel John Chivington's Colorado volunteers at Sand Creek, Colorado. An estimated 70-500 Native Americans were killed and mutilated that day by the United States Army. -
Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn was fought near the Little Bighorn River in the Montana Territory. U.S. troops were lead by Lieutenant George Custer against a band of Lakota, Sioux, and Cheyenne warriors. Tensions between the two groups had been rising since gold was discovered there. -

This was a massacre of nearly three hundred Lakota people, by the soldiers of the United States Army. This was a botched attempt to disarm the Lakota camp.
