    ~President Ronald Reagan made MLK Day an offical holiday in 1983.

    ~President's Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February.
    ~It is a celebration of the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
    ~President Rutherford B Hayes made it an offical holiday in 1879.
    ~Banks and other federal buildings are closed on this day, however most adults have to work and most students have to go to school on this day.
  • Memorial Day

    ~Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May.
    ~It was established to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the US Armed Forces.
    ~It began as "Decoration Day" because people would go and decorate the graves of soldiers.
    ~Memorial Day became its offical name in 1967.
    ~Most adults do not have to work and most students do not have to go to school on this day. Most people celebrate with by spending time with their families.

    ~Independence Day is celebrated on the 4th day of July every year.
    ~It is a celebration of the United States independence from Great Britain, which was made offical when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th 1776.
    ~Congress made it a national holiday in 1870.
    ~Most people celebrate with cookouts and fireworks. Most adults do not have to work on this day.

    ~Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September.
    ~It celebrates all of the hard working people in America. It began when workers had a parade in the streets of New York City.
    ~It was declared a national holiday by President Grover Cleveland in 1887.
    ~Some families take mini-vacations on this holiday. Most adults do not have to work and students do not have to go to school on this day.

    ~Columbus Day is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
    ~It is a celebration of Christopher Columbus discovering America in 1492.
    ~It became a national holiday in 1937.
    ~Banks and other federal buildings are closed on this day, however most adults have to work and most students have to go to school on this day.
  • Veteran's Day

    ~Veterans Day is celebrated on the 11th day of November
    ~This holiday was established to honor the men and women who have served or are serving in the US Armed Forces.
    ~Originally called Armistice Day, it marks the anniversary of the end of World War I (11/11/1918).
    ~In 1954 the name was officially changed to Veteran's Day.

    ~Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
    ~It is a day set aside for giving thanks. The first Thanksgiving is recorded in 1621, when the pilgrims and indians celebrated a harvest meal together.
    ~Congress declared it a national holiday in 1941.
    ~Most adults do not have to work and students do not go to school on this day. It is usually celebrated by spending time with family and friends and sharing a big meal together.

    ~Itis a religious holiday which celebrates the birth of Jesus.
    ~It was declared a national holiday in 1870.
    ~Most adults do not have to work. It is usually celebrate by time spent with family and presents from family and friends opened.
