    The cotton gin was patented 1794. This was an invention that cleaned cotton 50 times faster than a person could. It was a big part of the Industrial Revolution.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Thomas Jefferson hired Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition where they explored the west. They were the first major expedition to reach the Pacific Ocean.
  • First mill built in Lowell, Massachusetts

    Francis Cabot Lowell created the first factory system. This started the Industrial Revolution. These mills produced mass amounts of textiles.

    Trail of Tears

    The Trail of Tears was the removal of the Cherokee tribe. They were forcibly removed by Andrew Jackson's orders. Many Cherokee men, women, and children died along the trail.
  • Gold at Sutter's Mill

    On this day James Marshall was working on the mill when he discovered gold. When people found out there was gold there it started the California Gold Rush.
  • Signing of the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The signing of this treaty ended the Mexican-American War in Ameirca's favor. The war lasted for about two years. After the treaty was signed we gained Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
