  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Purpose-These acts were made to direct trade between England and the colonies. Colonial merchants who had goods to send to England couldn't Use foreign ships. Outcome- Colonists resented British Restrictions. MErchants wanted to make their own manufactured goods and sell where they could get higher prices. Merchants started smuggling the goods.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Purpose-This set the Appalachian Mountains as the Temporary western Boundry for the colonies.This act Angered the ones who owned shares in land company. Outcome- Speculators ignored their land claims and more conflict would arise between Britain and the colonies.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Purpose- It lowered the tax on iMported molasses and let officers seize goods from smugglers without going to court. Outcome- This act angered colonists. They thought the actions violated their rights as English Citizens. Condridicted a British law stating " inocent till provin guilty.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Purpose- They placed a tax on almost all printed material, including wills, newspaper, and playing cards. All printed material had to have a stamp. Outcome- Colonists boycotted the act and Parliment repealed the act in March, 18, 1766. Then the passed the Declaratory act on the same day.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Purpose- It stated that Parliment had the right to tax and make desicions for the British colonies " in all cases". Out come- U.S could do nothing against them because British said that they were "for the good of their own Empire".
  • Townshend Act

    Purpose- Applyed taxes only to imported goods such as glass, tea, and paper, with the tax being paid at port of entry. Outcome- Colonists organized another boycott. The Daughters of Liberty urged Americans to wear homemade fabrices, and produce other goods they needed rather than but British goods.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Allowed the British East INdia Company a virtual monopoly, or sole control, of the trade for tea in America. Outcome- The Daughters of Liberty issued a pamphlet declaring that rather than part with our freedom "we'll part with our tea".
  • Coercive Act

    Coercive Act
    Purpose-These harsh laws were intended to punish the people of Massachusetts for their resistance to British law. Outcome-PArliment planned to isolate Boston with these laws but other colonies sent food and clothing to support Boston.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    Purpose- To set up a government for Quebec and gave Quebec west of the Appalachian Mountains and North of the Ohio River Valley. Outcome- Colonists expressed their feelings in their name for new laws- The intolerable Acts.
