    Clara was assigned to a hospital in Blois where she treated badly wonded French soldiers. She could hear German shelling on Bastille Day. The hospital received many patients a few days later.

    Clara had a near-death experience while waching an air raid from the hospital. Moments before an explosion hit right where she was standing, a solier pulled her away. Fire caught in the hospital and many medical supplies were destroyed.

    Clara was born in 1894 in Milwalkee, Wisconsin. She married Arnold Steven Hoke and had 2 children. On June 27, 1984, Clara died in San Diego, California.
