All About Marriage and Duels
Duels have been around since the 1700s, an icon duel took place in Hyde Park back in 1712. This encounter was between Duke of Hamilton and Baron Mohun. On the other hand Marriages have been around for centuries. In the 1800-1820s marriage went by the Napoleonic Code. These principles were strict until women finally were given the right to work in 1965. Some duels consisted of spouses being offended by affairs their wife may have had. -
Rules of Marriage
To be eligible for marriage, the son must be age 25 and the daughter age 21. The families of the couple must consent to their marriage. Rules after marriage consist of, the spouse providing protection, the wife must live with her spouse, the wife can not buy property with out her husbands authority, if the wife was in prisoned her husbands authority is not needed. A divorce can only be demanded by the husband. If a woman divorces she must wait 10 months to remarry. -
Duels During the Napoleonic Era
There were two types of duels known in the 19th century. Number one being pistol duels and two being small-sword duels. A sword duel had a fatality rate of 20% and for pistol duels only 6.5%. Small swords were hand crafted to fit its welders hand. These swords were thrusted three time per second during duels. Pistols were preferred to those who took part in these activities. This was because pistols were becoming more popular and easy to use. Otherwise swords would take years to master -
Rules of a Duel
A duel consisted of a challenger and opponent. The challanger was normally the one dishonored or offended. The challanger would challange his opponent by throwing down his glove or hitting his opponent in the face with it. Each person part taking in the duel would have a “second”. This was a common term for someone who was well trusted to fill in for them. The Code Duello was a common form of rules use when dueling. An example is the first offense requires the first apology. -
Marriages During the Napoleonic Era
During the Napoleonic era, Napoleon himself created laws known as the Napoleonic Code. This code granted men the right to control women. Women didn’t have the right to education, so their job was to stay home and provide for the childern. During a marriage a women could not leave under any circumstances, cause by law they were now bound to their spouse. This code was upkept till 1965 when wives got the right to work without their spouses permission. This only came about by forfeit.
