    Napoleon fought against Piedmont and the Australian emperor and defeated them. Because of this exchange, he gained new land. It ended on February 9th, 1801.
  • Egyptian Campaign 🟡

    Napoleon embarked on a campaign throughout the Ottoman territories in Egypt and Syria to defend French trade. It ultimately failed because the French didn’t have enough men to establish sufficient military presence and because their fleet was destroyed by the British Navy. Despite all of this, he was able to cover his tracks. The campaign ended on September 2nd, 1801.
  • Consulate 🟢

    Napoleon removed the old Directory and replaced it with the Consulate, which was a system governed by three consuls. He later took the title as first consul in 1802, and the Consulate lasted until 1804.

    Napoleon created this bank in order to help restore France’s economy after the Revolution.

    An agreement between Napoleon and representatives of the church that defines the status of the Roman Catholic Church in France and ended the reforms brought on by the Revolution. It was a failure because Napoleon viewed religion as a means rather than an end.

    Despite the Consulate having three consuls, Napoleon decided to take the title as first Consul. After gaining more military credibility and support among the people, he deemed himself consul for life.

    A set of laws created for post-revolutionary France which gave men greater and equal rights, and unfortunately took away the rights of women, and reintroduced colonial slavery. After over 80 meetings with his commission, Napoleon was able to get the laws approved.

    By quickly moving up the political rankings in France, Napoleon became a well known general by the late 1790s, first consul in 1800, and emperor by Pope Pius VII in December of 1804.

    A naval battle between a French and Spanish fleet and a British fleet taking place between Cádiz and the Strait of Gibraltar. The British fleet won by organizing their ships into squadrons and methodically attacking the weak line of French and Spanish ships.

    Napoleon invaded the Holy Roman Empire and set up the Confederation of Rhine, which forced the emperor to abdicate from his position.
  • Continental System 🟡

    Continental System 🟡
    Napoleon’s troops occupied many European trading ports to stop British trade. In response, the British set up blockades and eventually began seizing neutral ships. This eventually started the War of 1812 over in America. It ended April 11th, 1814.

    Napoleon attempted to invade Spain in order to trade with Portugal, but the Spaniards passionately resisted with the help of some British soldiers. Napoleon continued to put soldiers into Spain, but eventually had to admit defeat in 1814.

    Napoleon attempted to invade Russia to cease their trading with Britain. The French Army were met with a brutal and deadly winter, which killed nearly a million soldiers in only six months. Due to the extreme weather conditions, the French lost on December 14th, 1812.

    Battle of Nations at Leipzig 🔴
    An alliance was formed between Russia, Britain, Austria, and Prussia after Napoleon’s quick loss in Russia. The battle was over by October 19th and led to Napoleon abdicated the throne and being exiled to Elba.
  • Hundred Days 🔴

    The 100 day long period between Napoleon’s return from exile and King Louis XVIII’a restoration of power. During the time the War of the Seventh Coalition began, and was ultimately ended by the Battle of Waterloo.
    The 100 Days ended on July 8th, 1815.

    This battle marked the end of the Napolionic Wars. It was a massive battle of Napoleon’s French Army versus an army led by the Duke of Wellington. In the end both sides sustained massive losses, but Napoleon ended up losing.
  • Abdication 🔴

    After coalition forces entered Paris, Napoleon decided to abdicate in favor of his son Napoleon II. He was then exiled to the island of Elba.
