  • Italian Campaign🟢

    In Napoleon’s Italian Campaign, he faces one Austrian and one Piedmont army in Italy. He defeated Piedmont first, and then Austria, making them both retreat from Italy. He conquered most of northern Italy. This was a huge success as this turned Napoleon into a key political figure.
  • Egyptian Campaign🔴

    Napoloen led an expedition to Egypt hoping to disrupt British trade routes to India. This campaign however, ended in a complete disaster. The British found the French fleet anchored off the coast of Egypt a nod destroyed it. This was a huge failure for France as they were forced to surrender.

    The Consulate was the Government of France until Napoleon’s Empire started in 1804. There were 3 consuls, but Napoleon gained all the power in the government. The Consulate was both good and bad as it form the foundation of France laws today, but the government lasted for a very short time.

    The Banque de France is the central bank in France. It was to encourage economic recovery after the revolutionary period. This was a major success for Napoleon as he was able to help France’s economic problems after the revolution. The Banque de France is still around today.

    The Concordat of 1801 was signed by Napoleon in 1801. It kept the Roman Catholic Church under state control, and also recognized religious freedom for Catholics. This was both a success and failure. While it gave necessary reforms to the church, it was largely in favor of the state.

    Napoleon called himself Consul for Life in 1802. This made him officially the most powerful man in all of France. This was a major success for Napoleon.

    The Napoleon Code made the authority of men stronger, and limited women’s rights. He created this to modernize France. It was a success and a failure as it gave France a single, uniform legal system, but it took away some key rights from the revolution.

    Napoleon called himself the Emperor in 1804 because he felt that kings were common and didn’t leave a mark on history, but emperors do. Doing this ended the Consulate. This was a success as he was ab,e to expand his empire.

    The Battle of Trafalgar was a naval battle between France and England. This was the first battle for Napoleon trying to conquer Europe. This ended in disappointment for Napoleon as he lost the Battle.

    Napoleon abolished the Holy Roman Empire that has been a round since the early Middle Ages. This was a success as he was able to set up the Confederation of the Rhine.

    The Continental System created by Napoleon prohibited all trade with Great Britain. This ended in 1814 after Napoleon’s first abdication. This was a major failure as it led to Napoleon’s downfall.

    Napoleon invaded Spain to have it in his empire. He made his brother, Joseph, on the throne. The Spanish people remained loyal to the old king and defeated France in a war that lasted until the sixth coalition. This was a failure for Napoleon and the French as he had to surrender.

    In order to force Tsar Alexander I to stop trading with Britain, Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812. This quickly turned to a disaster as Napoleon was forced to retreat from Russia from lack of supplies. This was a major failure for Napoleon.

    Before the war, Britain, Russia, Austria, and Prussia formed an alliance. There goal was to defeat Napoleon and destroy any army he had left. They were successful as Napoleon lost on of the final battles of the Napoleonic era.

    With Paris under threats, Napoleon was forced to abdicate the throne. He was exiled for the first time to the island of Elba. This was a huge failure for Napoleon.

    Napoleon escaped being exiled at Elba. He started marching toward France and mobilized for war. The hundred days ended after Napoleon had a crushing defeat in the Battle of Waterloo.
  • Waterloo

    Waterloo
    Waterloo was the final battle of the Napoleonic era. This battle lasted only nine hours, as Napoleon was defeated for the final time. He was once again exiled to St. Helena, where he would eventually die at the age of 51.
