Napoleon is Born
Napoleon Bonaparte was born on the Mediterranean island of Croatia on August 15, 1769. Napoleon was the second child of theirs, and they would later go on to have eight children. Napoleons family was not wealthy, despite being members of the minor Caucasian nobility. -
Napoleon Becomes General in French Army
Napoleon was known for his tactical command, and widely credited for the victory at Toulon, after this he was given to new rank of brigadier general. -
Napoleons Campaign in Italy Begins
Napoleon before this was a relatively unknown commander of the military. When he conquered over Italy, he then gained power of Italy's army. His plan was to invade northern Italy and to occupy Lombardy, the French Directory believed that doing this would for the Austrians to move some of their troops down away from where they wanted to invade. -
Napoleons Campaign in Egypt
Napoleon had begun his campaign with an army of 38,000 men. Napoleon had said he would defend the French trade interest in Egypt, while also weakening Britans access to British India, and to finally make a scientific enterprise in the region of Egypt. -
First Consul for Life
The consulate was the name for the government in France. Napoleon had became First Consul, which meant he made himself sole ruler. Napoleon had brought a personal rule through the consulate which had been viewed as a military dictatorship. -
Concordat of 1801
The concordat was an agreement that Napoleon and Pope Pius VII that remained in effect until 1905. The agreement had seeked reconciliation between revolutionaries and the Catholics. The agreement had also confirmed that the Roman Catholic church was the majority church of France, meaning that most of the people who worshiped a god, worshiped in a Roman Catholic church. -
Napoleon is Known as Emporer of the French
Napoleon had made himself an emperor, meaning that he was self proclaimed, and that he decided by himself he was the emperor, and that the people did not elect him to hold such position. -
Napoleon puts the Napoleonic code in Place
Napoleon had not liked the way that the old laws were established and thought he should do away with them, and in place of them he put the Napoleonic code, which was named after himself. -
Battle of Trafalgar
The battle of Trafalgar was a naval war fought between the British and France. The French and Spanish navies had teamed up and were both on Frances time during this battle. In the battle there were approximately 27 British ships and 37 French and Spanish ships. In the end, the British won resulting in a loss for Napoleon. -
Continental System is Placed
The continental system was initiated after the Berlin Decree, which was a decree that had made the import of British goods in to France forbidden. The continental system was what they had used to keep this decree effective. -
Battle of Leipzig
The Battle of Leipzig was a battle that in the end had resulted in Napoleon loosing all of the territory he had control of past the Rhine. During this battle, Napoleon had also had Polish and Italian troops on his side. On the other side it was the Russian, Prussian, Austrian, and Swedish armies. -
Napoleon is Exiled to Elba
After many war losses, the people had begun to rebel against napoleon. All of this resulted in his being kicked out of France and sent to a small Island called Elba. During this, his wife and son were taken as refugees in Vienna. Over a little less than a year there, Napoleon had wound up escaping Elba and going back to France. -
Battle at Waterloo
Battle at Waterloo was fought in present day Belgium, and parts of the United kingdom of the Netherlands. This fight was against the French, and the British. Napoleon, who was leading the French, had taken yet another loss against the British. -
Napoleon is Exiled Once Again, to Saint Helena.
After Napoleon had come back from his first time being exiled, the people had warmly welcomed him back as a leader, but soon after, they once again turned on their glorious leader, leading his to be once again exiled. This time instead of him going back to Elba, he was taken to Saint Helena, where he would die. -
Napoleon Dies
Napoleon, after being on the island of Saint Helena that he was exiled to, for almost ten years. Napoleon had left behind a legacy of being the greatest military leader of all time.
