Napoleon is born -
School Life
After his father's death, Napoleon must complete a two year course in one year, and goes on to graduate as an artillery officer. -
Promotion
After going from luetinant to commander to general, Napoleon becomes leader of the French army. He goes on to win the war in Italy over the next year -
Attacking the British
Napoleon is put in command of an army training to invade Britain, though he knows they would not be able to pull it off. Instead, he decides to attack Egypt, one of Britain's territories. -
Napoleon leaves Egypt
Seeing that defeat in Egypt by the British navy is unavoidable, Napoleon abandons his army and returm to France -
Napoleon seizes power
Upon returning to France, Napoleon seizes power in a Coup d'etat, or "military takeover." He then set up a new government called the Consulate. While it was a republic in theory, Napoleon actually held absolute power. -
Peace with the church
The Catholic Church has lost a lot of land in the revolution, and had become an enemy of the government. To establich peace, Napoleon struck a deal. He would proclaim catholisism as the religion of the majority of the Frech people, and the Church would not try any longer to regain its lost land. -
Napoleon crowned Emperor
After being appointed as Consulate for life in 1802, Napoleon takes it a step further and crowns himself Emperor Napoleon I. -
The civil code
Napoleon introduced the civil code, or Napoleonic code, which preserved many of the rights the Revolutionaries has fought for, including religous freedom, equality of all citizens preserved, and the choice of one's own profession. It was, however, a step back for most women. -
The Russian Invasion
Napoleon had no choice but to invade Russia, for they refused to join his Continental system. When he invaded Russi with 600,000 men, Napoleon lost many, many lives to starvation, cold, and lack of supplies. This led to a crippled Fench army of fewer than 40,000 men. -
French Empire
By 1812, Napoleon had conquered many states in Europe, including Spain, Italy, and had allied France with Austria, Prussia, Denmark and Norway. There were several enemies of Napoleon however, including Russia, Britain, and Sweden. -
Exile
When Napoleon returned to France after his first exile, he was again attacked by the allied Europen nations, and exiled for good to the island of St. Helena -
Death
Napoleon dies of stomach cancer after remaining in exile for 7 years
