  • Nature's Capacities and their Measurement

    Nature's Capacities and their Measurement
“Science is a measurement; capacities can be measured; and science cannot be understood without them. These are the three major theses of this book.”
This book argues that capacities are a major part of the scientific world and can help meet the strict demand for testability. Cartwright is able to apply her theories and lessons discussed throughout the book towards quantum mechanics in order to explain causality.

    Causation: One Word, Many Things
Cartwright seems to be a big fan of going against the grain that Hume and Kant have set in place. She argues in this article that causation is not a single concept like Hume and Kant have discovered. “There are different kinds of causal relations imbedded in different kinds of systems, readily described using thick causal concepts.” Cartwright, Nancy. “Causation: One Word, Many Things.” Philosophy of Science, vol. 71, no. 5, 2004, pp. 805–19, https://doi.org/10.1086/426771.
  • Winning the Martin R. Lebowitz Prize!

Winning the Martin R. Lebowitz Prize!
Nancy won this prestigious award for Philosophical Achievement of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. This award was created in 2012 in honor or Martin Lebowitz by his wife, Eve, after his passing. It is then awarded to two individuals with contrasting views on a chosen topic of current interest in philosophy. Elliott Sober was the opposing view award winner. The topic they discussed was "is there such thing as the scientific method?"

Nancy Cartwright wins the Carl Gustav Hempel Award!
This award was given to Nancy by the Philosophy of Science Association for the lifetime achievement in the philosophy of science as well as scholarly excellence. This award, just like the Lebowitz Award, was created in 2012.
  • Trust vs Criticise Science
