    In these paragraphs, I have come to the realization that Bangladesh is still similar in ethnicities, languages, and religions, in the past as it is today. Bangladesh was ruled by *BUDDHIST and *HINDU kings from the 700s to the 1100s. In 1988, Islam became the state religion. The people in Bangladesh identify as *INDO-ARYAN (branch of the Indo-European language family that includes Hindi, Bengali, and other languages) ethnic group, the 3rd largest ethnic group worldwide.

    During the 8th century CE, The *ARABS (a member of an Arabic-speaking people), invaded the Bangladesh region and brought the *MUSLIM religion.

    PERSIANS MIGRATED

    *PERSIANS (the people of Persia), and *TURKS (from turkey) migrated in large numbers to the subcontinent. By the beginning of the 13th century, they had reached what is now Bangladesh.

    PORTUGUESE VOYAGED

    The Portuguese traders brought the religion of Christianity to Bangladesh in the 16th century. Christianity made presence in bangladesh from portuguese missionaries in the 1510s. Albuquerque wanted to spread christianity by influencing inter-marriage including the the native Bengali woman. In 1514, the Portuguese had gotten the right to teach Christianity to the citizens in Bengal, thanks to the agreement between the Catholic *POPE and the King of Portugal.

    Direct authority by the British, which began in 1858, affected a political and economic merging of the subcontinent. When British rule was seized in 1947, the subcontinent was isolated along religious lines into two separate countries—India, with a majority of *HINDUS (Followers of Hinduism), and *WEST PAKISTAN (now Pakistan), with a majority of *MUSLIMS (follower of Islam); the eastern portion of Pakistan later split off to form Bangladesh.

    Today, Bangladesh has about 3 main religions and most people speak Bengali. The people in Bangladesh are predominantly *MUSLIM (follows the religion of Islam), which was brought from the Arabs. Approximately 10% are Hindu and a small number of *CHRISTIANS were brought by the Portuguese.
    The country is covered almost entirely by people who speak *BENGALI. Bangladesh has a distinguishable culture. Bangladesh's capital is Dhaka.
