They were originally produced by Fleischer Studious, they made 8. Then taken over by Famous Studios. I chose this event because it started a whole generation of superhero movies and shows. -

Richard James invented the slinky by accident in 1943. It was invented when he was working to devise springs that could keep ships steady. He then knocked some samples off a shelf and watched in amazement as the springs went down the stairs. Initial sales were sluggish until Gimbels department store in Philadelphia allowed demonstrations. The first 400 were sold within minutes. Percy Spencer invented it by accident in 1945. He worked at a company that made microwave transmitters . He noticed that one day that he left his candy bar in it and it melted. The 1945 world series was between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. Future Hall of Famers Hank Greenburg and Hal Newhouser from Detroit and Phil Cavaretta, Stan Hack, Andy Pafko from Chicago. Chicagon won game one(9-0), Detroit won game two (4-1), Chicago won game 3 (3-0), Detroit won game 4 (4-1), Detroit won game five (8-4), Chicago won game 6 (8-7), Detroit won game 7 (9-3).
