  • My Reading History

How reading shaped me into the reader I am today.
  • 2nd Grade

    2nd Grade
When I was in 2nd grade, I was having difficulty reading. I didn't like to read and would not read out loud.
  • Front Row....

    Front Row....
My teacher made me sit in the front row because she thought I was having vision problems. It wasn't just that I could not read well, I had issues with writing and math as well.
  • Time to Have My Eyes Checked

Time to Have My Eyes Checked
My teacher thought I might need glasses since I was having issues reading.
  • Feeling Dumb

    Feeling Dumb
Because I was having reading difficulties, I was pulled out of class each day to sit with a teacher and practice reading. I felt dumb. In the 70's having any disability made you different even as simple as having difficulty reading. In the early 70s we didn't have the resources used today to assist students with disabilities.

    What Was Happening to Me?
After almost a year of showing difficulties in reading and completing work, I was diagnosed with dyslexia.
  • My First Favorite Books to Read

My First Favorite Books to Read
I fell in love with Amelia Bedelia books because they were easy to read.
  • Middle School Reading

    Middle School Reading
I don't really remember liking to read during middle school. I do remember that we used to have reading logs and were required to read so many books during the year, but I think I fudged a lot and read really easy ones.
  • Reading in High School Ugh...

    Reading in High School Ugh...
After graduating from easy to read books, I found myself "required" to read teacher selected books that I found boring and did not enjoy reading.
  • It's Been a Long Time Coming

It's Been a Long Time Coming
It wasn't until I was in high school that I found my favorite author Stephen King. I love to read anything he wrote, but Pet Semetary was my favorite (at that time). My mom bought the book for me for Christmas. I loved the way he could draw you into the story and make you feel. I still like to read his book, I just don't have time anymore.
  • New Author Found

    New Author Found
I never really read for pleasure except on the weekends, but when I was going on my first cruise, I asked friends who they read so I could read something different from scary books. Nicholas Sparks was very popular so I checked him out. I bought The Note Book. I was hooked. My favorite is A Bend in the Road.
  • Which Brings Us to Today.

    Which Brings Us to Today.
I have a few select authors that I read, no smut or Harlequin Romances for this girl. Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson, Harlen Coben are my top go to authors. Sorry Stephen King, you just got to weird for me.
