1492: Conquest of Paradise: Land ho
EVENT: On October 12th, 1492, Christopher Columbus, a navigator, landed on various caribbean islands.
FACT CHECK: The information in this film was pretty accurate, and didn't influence the "Columbus discovered America" lie.
CONNECTION: If I were in Columbus's shoes, I don't think I would've lasted as a leader as long as he did. I don't do too well under high-pressure circumstances.
RATING:⭐⭐⭐ I gave this film 3/5 stars because I couldn't understand what anyone was saying half the time. -
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure: France Invades Austria
EVENT: In 1805 Napoleon invades Austria, and is then kidnapped by Bill and Ted, and taken to the future.
FACT CHECK: France did actually invade Austria. One of the reasons being, revolutionaries thought a war would unify the country.
CONNECTION: Seeing Napoleon in today's day and age would be interesting, considering things would be drastically different.
RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The representation was accurate, but Bill and Ted were irritating. -
12 Years a Slave - Kidnapped
EVENT: March 22nd, 1841, Solomon was drugged and kidnapped by two businessmen while in Washington DC.
FACT CHECK: Many free-born African Americans were actually tricked and sold into slavery, just like Solomon.
CONNECTION: Human-trafficking is still a very real thing, and there are even more methods now than there used to be.
RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I gave this movie 3/5 stars because I was not able to watch much of the movie. However, the part I was able to watch, I found informational. -
Lincoln - Assassinated
EVENT: April 15th, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theatre.
FACT CHECK: Lincoln was actually assassinated at Ford's Theatre; He was shot in the left side of his head by John Wilkes Booth.
CONNECTION: Since Lincoln's assassination, security for presidents has been upped.
RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I gave this movie 5 stars because it was enjoyable and informational. The actors were amazing, I felt like I was in the debates myself. -
The Lost Battalion
EVENT: The soldiers of The Lost Battalion were isolated and completely surrounded by German forces in the Argonne Forest.
FACT CHECK: Cher Ami, the last carrier pigeon, was real, and had a statue built in honor of his bravery.
CONNECTION: Although the technology is not quiet the same, similar methods of communication were used back then and now.
RATING: ⭐ Although I find films about wars interesting, I had a hard time following this one. -
Red Tails
EVENT: The Red Tails had their first important mission on Jan. 22nd, 1944.
FACT CHECK: The Red Tails did not have an important mission previous to this one.
CONNECTION: This specific group of African Americans gave many POC a good image, and shows that anyone can succeed in something if they try.
RATING: The film was very informational and was easy to follow. I enjoyed it. -
Forest Gump
EVENT: Elvis stays at Gump's house and Forrest teaches Elvis a dance he likes.
FACT CHECK: Although this scene was never 100% confirmed to be true, it's still funny to think about.
CONNECTION: Many kids would love to meet/hangout with a big celebrity, but with this covid going around I don't think anyone will even be performing.
RATING: I gave this movie a 5/5, I was able to watch this movie without falling asleep. It's very entertaining. -
Selma
EVENT: The Selma to Montgomery march is led by John Lewis.
FACT CHECK:The event was accurately depicted the march that actually took place years ago.
CONNECTION: People are still protesting for equality today; for example the BLM Movement is a huge protest going on right now.
RATING: I gave this movie a 3/5 because it was hard to keep up with, but it had some interesting scenes. -
Rescue Dawn
EVENT: Dieter Dengler, a U.S. Navy aviator was shot down and taken by Vietnamese forces.
FACT CHECK: He, as well as many other aviators were actually shot down during the war.
CONNECTION: Because technology has advanced majorly, the chances of another aviator getting shot down is low.
RATING: I gave this movie a 2/5, overall the movie was slow, and I couldn't tell what anyone was saying half the time. -

The Dust Bowl - Documentary (best fill-in I could find)
Event:Some individuals are sharing their stories about how they lived during the Dust Bowl.
FACT CHECK:The Dust Bowl was the worst drought in North America in 1,000 years.
CONNECTION:Although the circumstances aren't quite the same, right now we have to wear masks, stay inside, and try to make ends meet with groceries, bills, etc.
RATING:I gave this documentary a 5/5. I like getting information from a primary source; In this case the people who lived through this event, and shared their stories. -
Culture Shock (2019)
EVENT: Marisol, A young Mexican girl, negotiates a deal with a Coyote so she can cross the American border.
FACT CHECK: This scene describes how difficult a Coyote's job is, and how rough the path of illegal immigration is.
CONNECTION: This movie reminds me of the book La Línea.
RATING: Personally, I like seeing people's different perspectives on life, and what they went through. I gave this movie a 4/5 -
