No interest in books
My mom was and still is a teacher, I had no interest in reading as a toddler and many other teachers asked my mom why she didn't teach me to read at an early age since she had the ability to do so. She told them that she didn't want to push me if I wasn't into it. -
Reading is hard
We started learning to read when I was in first grade, back then kindergarten was only about learning letters, numbers, and learning important things like our phone numbers. I had a really hard time in first grade when it came to reading and I can also remember making horrible grades in spelling. -
Behind my younger brother
My brother, who is two years younger than me used to read my site words faster than I could which was embarrassing. -
My favorite book of all time

Junie B. Jones
Junie B. Jones books were my favorite books to read in my early reader years. -
I still hate independent reading
Throughout my elementary years I hated reading and my mom would have to force me to complete my daily reading homework. -
Meeting AR goals
If it wasn't for AR goals and prizes I would of never read anything. It was always a big deal to meet AR goals at my elementary school in Texas. The school had something close to a parade celebration every AR period for everyone who met their goals. -
Mom reads out loud at night
My mother, the teacher, and an avid reader, read the Harry Potter books out loud to us every night before bed. We would sometimes fall asleep listening to them. I did enjoy having someone read TO ME. -
ELA classes in middle and high school
As I got into middle and high school reading wasn't such a big deal.. I had finally caught on and I was a good reader with good comprehension skills- except when it came to reading history and science textbooks. Something that really helped me is that my secondary teachers let us choose the books we read and did reports on, I hated when we were assigned a book to read because it was usually really boring and I couldn't get into it enough to comprehend it. -
Middle School ELA Teacher!
I enjoy reading certain books for fun- when I have time, which nowadays is never. I also like listening to books on tape. And when I decided to go to school to become a teacher, I'm actually striving to become a middle school ELA teacher. I currently enjoy tutoring students who haven't done well in ELA at Simmons ES.
