Summer Reading - September 2nd, 2015: Left For Dead by Pete Nelson
I would rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked that this book had some intensity to it, even though it had been a nonfiction book. The setting took place in Florida, where an 11 year old was learning about the USS Indianapolis. The 11 year old, Hunter Scott, was inspired by a scene from the movie Jaws where the captain was talking about the sinking of the ship.
  • September 3rd - Workshop Novel 1MP: Warriors: Twilight

September 3rd - Workshop Novel 1MP: Warriors: Twilight
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The setting takes place in the forest, where many cats of different clans defend their territories. I liked that this book was a fantasy book, and it had cats (My Favorite Animal). I also liked that you could learn secrets that other characters didn't know, and you could learn both sides of the argument.
  • September 8th: The Outsiders

    September 8th: The Outsiders
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I really liked this book because of the conflict between two types of characters. The conflict was between Greasers and Socs, or pretty much the rich, and the poor. There were people that had tried to make peace between the two groups of people, but a big battle had ended up happening between the two.
  • November 1st - Second MP Workshop: Warriors: Sunset

November 1st - Second MP Workshop: Warriors: Sunset
I would rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars. This book features a great conflict between 4 different clans of cats. Each of these clans of cats are in the middle of the forest, fighting for food, and receiving signs from Starclan, a group of warrior ancestors that have died and give signs of what may happen in the future of the clans. Territory becomes something these clans need too, for a better chance of food and to look much more powerful.
  • February 1st: Lit Circle Novels: The Maze Runner

February 1st: Lit Circle Novels: The Maze Runner
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The setting of this book takes place in a giant maze, with teens trying to solve it to find out who had put them in it in the first place. There are many different conflicts out in the maze, like Grievers and moving walls. After the main character Thomas joins the maze as a runner, he finds many different clues to help them get out of the maze.
  • April 4th: 3rd MP Workshop: Warriors: The Sight

April 4th: 3rd MP Workshop: Warriors: The Sight
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book shows three main characters: Jaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw. These three cats are apprentices in Thunderclan. Jaypaw is a medicine cat, Hollypaw is a warrior, and Lionpaw is also a warrior. These three cats have kept and learned many different secrets throughout their clan, along with getting into a lot of trouble.
  • May 4th: The Giver

    May 4th: The Giver
I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I really liked that this book was partly sci-fi, featuring some more futuristic things along with the format of a Utopian Society. The main character in this book was Jonas. Jonas got a very important job in the community as Receiver of Memory, and got to see things beyond what many others could see. After seeing all the memories and secrets of the community, Jonas had decided he couldn't take it any more and left the community.
  • June 15th: Self Assessment

I believe I have grown as a reader this year. Since I am a bit of a slow reader, reading at least 8 or 9 books this year is an accomplishment. Workshop time in class had helped me read more books, and develop my vocabulary within the books I read. I also believe I have become a better thinker this year because I can indentify and look for context clues when seeing a vocabulary word I may not have known. For next year, I hope to learn many new words to add to my vocabulary and read more books.
