  • Summer Reading Novel: A Mango Shaped Space

Summer Reading Novel: A Mango Shaped Space
I would rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars. In this novel, a girl named Mia Winchell has a disability called synesthesia, which jumbles up her senses. For example, she sees different colors in words and sounds. This disability causes difficulties for her with school, friends, and family. I liked this novel because it was very sweet, and was a very touching story.
  • 1st Workshop Novel: The Hunger Games

1st Workshop Novel: The Hunger Games
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. In this book, there are 12 districts 1, as the richest, to 12 as the poorest. This civilization, called Panem, has the Hunger Games every year. In district 12, Katniss volunteers to go in instead of her younger sister Prim. Throughout the games, she struggles to survive. I enjoyed this book because it was so different from any other story, and it seemed real while I was reading.
  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders
I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. In this novel, there is a town that has an east and west side. The west side was poorer, where 'the greasers' live and the 'Socs' (the wealthy citizens) live in the East. These two groups are rivals who have to get over this problem of rivalry. I liked reading this book because it was so detailed, and the characters were either really likable or unlikable.
  • 2nd Workshop Novel: Catching Fire. (I have also read "Daring to Dream" and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

2nd Workshop Novel: Catching Fire. (I have also read "Daring to Dream" and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."
I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. The conflict of this story is that this year, the capitol wants to make the Quarter Quell special and different from all the other years. They made it 'special' by picking tributes from each district who have already one, to go back to the arena and fight. Both Katniss and Peeta are picked to face many many challenges once again. I liked this book because there were many twists and cliff-hangers.
  • Lit Circle Novel: The Lost Hero

Lit Circle Novel: The Lost Hero
I would definitely rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. In this book, the main characters Jason, Piper, and Leo find out they are demigods (son/daughter of a god). Once they finally find the right place to fit in, they have to go on a life threatening, crazy, and very eventful quest to help Hera out of her prison and start to prevent Gaea from rising. I loved this book because I really enjoy Rick Riordan's books about thew gods. Also, this book started me off to my new favorite series!
  • 3rd Workshop Novel: The Son of Neptune. (I have also read the large books, "Mark of Athena," and "The House of Hades."

3rd Workshop Novel: The Son of Neptune. (I have also read the large books, "Mark of Athena," and "The House of Hades."
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. As a continuation of "The Lost Hero", The Son of Neptune's plot occurs at Camp Jupiter, the roman demigod camp, when Percy Jackson wakes up with no memory and finds his way to this camp, where he makes two friends Hazel and Frank. These three go on a quest to unchain death and find the legions lost eagle. I liked this book because it explained what had happened to Percy Jackson, while it was very entertaining to read, and again, so many good cliff-hangers!
  • 4th Workshop Novel: Blood Of Olympus. (I have also read "The House of Hades").

4th Workshop Novel: Blood Of Olympus. (I have also read "The House of Hades").
I would definitely rate this novel a 5 out of 5 or above! This novel is the last book in the Heroes of Olympus series. In this book, the 7 demigods- Jason, Piper, Leo, Percy, Annabeth, Frank, and Hazel- finish their last voyage to Athens to destroy the giants and Gaea, once and for all. But during this voyage, challenges must be faced and sacrifices must be made in order for all to go well. I absolutely loved this book because it was so adventurous, funny, suspenseful, and emotionally amazing.
  • The Giver

    The Giver
I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. In this futuristic novel, Jonas lives in a Community where sameness is key to life. When Jonas has his Ceremony of 12, he is chosen as the new Receiver of Memory, which is a very rare job. Once he has experiences from elsewhere, he decides he doesn't want to live in the Community anymore. I enjoyed this book because it was very different from anything else i have read, but the only part I didn't really get was the transition throughout the years.
  • Reading Sess-Assessment Part 1

This year I have grown significantly as a reader. In the beginning of the year it would take about 1 to 2 months to complete an average sized book. Now, it only takes a month or even less to finish a book that is pretty large/wide. I have also figured out what types of books I truly enjoy. I have grown as a thinker because while I am reading, I can make inferences and ask questions to myself that are answered later on in the novel.
  • Reading Assessment Part 2

Next year, I am going to set a personal goal to read a couple series and to try reading some books with different genres to expand my selection.
