My History as a Reader

  • Where the wild things are

    Where the wild things are
I was born in 2003. This was the first book I remember first reading and having it read to me in school. It still to this day is one of my favorite films, its cute, inspiring, and an all around great story.
  • Very hungry caterpillar

    Very hungry caterpillar
In kindergarten we performed a sock puppet play and had to dress our sock puppet as our favorite character from a book, I of course picked the very hungry caterpillar, the artwork has always interested me, it was the first thing I was drawn to as a child.
  • A Bad Case of the Stripes

A Bad Case of the Stripes
This was also read in school during the same time at my sock puppet play for the very hungry caterpillar. This book is so creative and an easy read for kids.
  • Don't let the Pigeon drive the bus

Don't let the Pigeon drive the bus
This book was read in my school and I believe I had it at home, we didn't have many books at home when I was a child, so I remember a lot of my childhood books through school.
  • Charlottes web

    Charlottes web
This book and movie is one of my core memories as a child. I remember reading the book dozens of times, its a great book to read when you are advancing from the easy picture books to the start of reading more advanced level chapter books.
  • Magic Tree House

    Magic Tree House
This was the first chapter book I started as a child, there was a point in time I tried to collect all magic tree house books when we would go to the school fair. The books are short and interesting and a great start for children to read actual chapter books!
  • Goosebumps

    Goosebumps
I copied a lot of what my older sisters were doing, we often didn't have our parents read to us growing up so I would take the books my sisters had and read them, goosebumps being one of them. This book has dozens of parts and to this day I could probably read them and be entertained.
  • The Fault in Our stars

    The Fault in Our stars
This movie and book was also very popular at the time. Everyone you knew read this book or watched the movie, its a very sad one, but the book itself was written beautifully and John green never misses when it comes to his writing!
  • Paper towns

    Paper towns
I mainly read this book because it was the cute coming of age story everyone talked about. I had an era where I read a lot of the cheesy, romcom story books. This book is a pretty easy read and a very cute story.
  • Frida Kahlos Diary

    Frida Kahlos Diary
at the beginning of 6th grade was when I learnt about Frida Kahlo, every since then I've been collecting her books, artwork, and poetry. Her writing and artwork has inspired me and is kind of the core of who I am and who I aspire to be. This books includes of her writings from her diary, poems, and artwork.
  • The Lovely Bones

    The Lovely Bones
This book was very sad and very deep when I read it at 13. It was the first book I read that had real life altering issues tackled in it, its about a young girl who gets kidnapped, raped, and killed and she lives life seeing it all being played out after she's passed away. its a god read, just very sad.
  • Dear Evan Hansen

    Dear Evan Hansen
This book and musical is still in my top 10 today. Its about a kid who goes through high school with no friends, then he meets Conner, who also has no friends. Conner commits suicide a couple weeks later and there was a note found by his parents that Conner was going to give to Evan, his parents believe Evan was his only friend and Evan goes along with it to not disappoint them, until eventually the truth comes out. Its a very good and impactful read.
  • Milk and Honey

    Milk and Honey
This was the first poetry book I had read, mostly because it was popular and everyone else around me was. But it did start my love and obsession for collecting poetry books especially by Rupi Kaur.
  • Since You've Been Gone

    Since You've Been Gone
This book is definitely very cheesy, but during my preteen age, I read it about 7 times. Its a book about two friends, after one runs away from her messy and toxic life, she leaves her best friend 13 things to do that she would've never done on her own, and it follow her completing those tasks until she eventually finds her best friend again.
  • Call Me by your Name

    Call Me by your Name
This book changed the trajectory of the type of books I like. This story is a very popular one, but its a very memorable one. Its based in 1980's Italy and follows Elio as he explores his sexuality after Oliver comes to work for his dad for the summer, it's a book of heartbreak and love.
  • They Both Die at the End

They Both Die at the End
I think this book was very cliche and predictable, as I got older I became a loser more critical of YA novels just because of how they all feel like the same story written over and over again, this book tells the story of a world in which people are told when they will die, but not how. After two men both get the call they are going to die they meet on a website dedicated to people who only have a certain amount of time left, they live out the rest of their hours together.
  • Red, White, and Royal Blue

    Red, White, and Royal Blue
This was the second LGBT book I have read. I think the representation is amazing, although it is another book that is predictable.
  • Im Glad my Mom Died

    Im Glad my Mom Died
This is a memoir written by Jennette Mccurdy where she recalls the instances where her mother sexually, physically, and mentally abused her as a child growing up in Hollywood. There are parts so dark that its hard to get through, but her story is told beautifully and she's inspired many with this novel.
  • Attack on Titan (series)

    Attack on Titan (series)
I started to collect manga around 2020, after watching attack on titan I decided to read the series, and it does not disappoint at all. This is probably one of the best written stories to exist in my opinion, every arc, every character, every moment is written beautifully, and it'll forever be the main book/ show I will recommend to others.
