  • Women Allowed to Vote- 1960

    Women were officially allowed to vote in 1960. This was one of the reasons why my family moved to Canada so my mother and father both would have an equal say.
  • Indian Immigrants to Canada after 1967

    Indian Immigrants significantly incresed because of the points systems which evaluated potential newcomers on their skills and not ethnicity. Immigrations from India had significantly increased in the 1960's.

    Immigration Act 1976

    This Act allowed my father to come to Canada using the points system when he applied as an independent immigrant. My father was interviewed and accepted as a skilled mechanical engineering technologist. He arrived in Canada on June 2, 2000. He furthur applied for us to come to Canada and we came in Septemeber of 2000.
  • Equality Rights of the Charter

    Equality Rights of the Charter
    The equality rights section of the Charter was delayed until April 17, 1985. Because of this section in the Charter my father chose to come to Canada, as said in the Charter, "Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability."
  • My Dad first landed in Canada

    My father first came to Canada on 2 June 2002. He came for various reasons and made many sacrifices in order to come and settle here.

    My father had sponsored my mom, my sister and meself to come to Canada after he came and the arrived in September of 2000.
