The officers are confiscating guns from Loyalists around the country. When they come to take the Brown Bess from Father, he doesn't have it, so they interrogate him about it and beat him up. -
First encounter witht he cow-boys
The cow-boys send Tim into a field with the wagon and beat up Father, but soon a Committee of Safety comes to rescue them. -
Father is kidnapped by the cow-boys
On the way back from Verplancks Point, the cow-boys kidnapped Father as he was riding ahead of Tim to scout the way. -

British soldiers came to Redding, took prisoners and supplies, and killed men in a firefight at Dan Starr's house. -
