Around the age of 3, my parent's began reading books to me every night. Ranging from Cat in the Hat to Green Eggs and Ham, my parent's wanted to expose me to literature at an early age to get me on track for pre-school.

At the early age of five, I opened up Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Suess, and began going through the pages carefully, taking each word step by step.

In kindergarten, I was instructed to write my first letters out in class, a huge feat for a child!

Beginning in the first grade, my teacher's began heavily implementing reading into our curriculum and in this case, this was the first scenario in which I was able to read a book without any real difficulty.

Various teachers had recommended to my parents in the second grade that I should be placed into a group of individuals who struggled with standardized reading to get me on track with the other students, it was a real blow to my confidence at a young age.

Around the third grade, my teacher assigned us a chapter book to read for the semester and I chose Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I enjoyed the read quite a bit and it propelled me to try out various forms of literature in the future.

In my early years of high-school, I was given the opportunity to teach younger children how to read through a program that my school ran, it what convinced me that becoming a teacher was a viable option in the future!
