  • carbon microphone

    This was disputed by Thomas Edison and David Edward Hughes.
  • condenser microphone

    It was made by two companies, Western Electric and Bell Laboratories. This was the first big step in microphone technology.
  • Jazz

    Jazz started off quite simple, with just microphones to record the band. Later electronic instruments were added such as the electric guitar, electric bass and keyboards such as the rhodes or organ. Later Jazz split off into various subgenres and the use of technology was heightened.
  • Theremin

    The theremin was invented in Soviet Russia by Leon Theremin. It was one of the first electronic instruments similar to the modern synthesizer. It uses radio oscillators to create it's sound.

    This was invented by Dr Walter Schottky and Dr Erwin Gerlach.
    there's a small piece of ribbon in a magnetic field that creates electric signals when it vibrates.
  • pop

    Pop music was similar to rock music in the 50s, with instruments such as electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards and microphones. Later pop music started to add more technology such as synthesizers and drum machines, more akin to dance, disco and funk music. When digital recording came to be, pop music was heavily influenced by synths and digital effects, until it became what it is today
  • Moog

    Moog invented his first synthesizer in '63 at the request of an experimental composer. It was the first modern synthesizer to be built and has remained the most famous.
  • Shure SM57 and SM58

    This microphone was invented in 1966 and we have been using them since due to their affordability and durability.
    It was roughly based on an earlier model of the Shure microphone.
  • Punk

    Punk used electric guitars and basses with lots of distortion and fuzz. Modern punk music uses the same principals but with better recording quality and the use of sampling, more effects and synthesizers.
  • Disco and dance

    Disco and dance music used synthesizers and electric basses and was known for its electronic clarity and hi-fi recording methods. It has stayed relatively the same but now with more synthesizers and electronic influence in modern times.
  • MiniKORG

    The miniKORG is one of the most famous vocoders and synthesizers to be built. It was used in many performances throughout its release and was a quintessential part of the electronic and dance scene
  • Hans Zimmer

    Hans Zimmer has been named one of the best composers of all time. His work consists of Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator and The Lion King. He is the head of music in DreamWorks.
  • Alternative rock

    Alternative rock was one of the first subgenres heavily featuring technology. It was one of the most experimental genres, utilizing many different recording techniques, electronic instruments and a focus on uniqueness. Now alternative rock is uses more technology than ever with a heavy influence on synthesizers and sampling.
  • Alexandre Desplat

    Alexandre Desplat is a composer mostly known for working on Little Women, The Shape of Water, Harry Potter and Twilight. He was presented with an Academy Award for best music twice, one for the Shape of Water and the other The Budapest Hotel.
  • David Guetta

    David Guetta is a famous DJ. He used to DJ in clubs around Paris having a couple club hits. He tends to use various DAWs but is most known for using Ableton Live in his live performances. He uses a lot of VSTs and plug ins to enhance his music such as VSTs from Native Instruments and the universal audio UAD-2 Satellite.

    They were one of the most famous electronic bands ever, they used a very wide range of synthesizers and drum machines, they are most known for their use of the talk box. They have collaborated with a multitude of famous artists during their active years.
  • Logic Pro

    Logic Pro is one of the most popular DAWs, used by the majority of studios and home DIY artists. It is second only to Ableton which is available for both mac OS and windows whereas Logic Pro is only available for mac OS.
  • Ariana Grande

    Ariana Grande engineers her own songs and records them by herself, she works very closely with technology and likes to be involved in all aspects of making and recording her songs.
    She uses a Shure SM7B microphone and commonly used vocoders and loop pedals when recording and performing.
