His dancing whiched was very similar to the way in which black people at the time danced shocked elder audiences, however younger audiences enjoyed the music and the shock their parents had, their rebelious values were fulfilled.

He attracted a large fan bass of young women at the times who valued the outlaw image, the boyfriend not to show your parents. He was also well known for rock n roll.

This status meant that these artists looked more authentic to the audiences of the time who valued authenticity rather than a formed and shaped artist made by an institution.
