Boston Tea Party
Britian passes laws to let tea companies sell to colonies without merchants. Britian taxes tea in the colonies to help pay for war. Patriots are upset with taxes and decide to get rid of the tea. Patriots dress up as Native Americans and throw tea into the harbour. -
Intolerable Acts
Britian puts four laws in action to punish Boston after their Tea Party. Boston Port Act, closed port until the tea was paid for. Massachusetts Government Act, puts the Parlament incharge of the government in Boston. Administration of Justice Act, trials of royal officers taken to Britian. Quartering Act, colonists had to provide places for soldiers to live in their homes. -
Lexington and Concord
First Military engagement of the war. Britain tries to take rebel's supplies from Concord. America moves supplies before attack. -
Washington Becomes Head of Army
Joined Continental Congress as a delegate from Virginia. Offered role of commander and chief of the army the next year. -
Declaration of Independence Signed
Written by Thomas Jefferson. Signed by the Continental Congress to make the United States a country. Declares basic rights to citizens. -
Battle of Long Island
British bring a huge fleet of troops to try and scare the Patriots. British take over New York City. -
Battle of Saratoga
British General John Burgoyne moved to Saratoga waiting for support from New York, which never came. Patriots surrounded them and they eventually surendered. France becomes ally to US. -
Battle of Yorktown
American and French attack British in Yorktown, VA. One of the last battles of the war. After the battle America was sure to win. -
Paris Peace Treaty Signed
British and American signed a peace treaty. Signed in Paris, France and marked the end of the war and made America it's own country. French, Spain, and Dutch all signed treaties with British as well.
