Importing Slaves Banned (Don't know the exact date.)
The United States banned importing slaves from Africa. People smuggled Africans over so they can make money. -
Missouri Compromise
Missouri became a slave state and Maine a free state. Slavery was forbidden from north of the latitude. -
Slave Rebellion
Denmark Vesey tries to attempt a rebellion in Charleston. Thirty-five people that helped were hung. -
Slave murder
Nat Turner led a rebellion that killed 60 people. He killed his own master and Nat is found later then he is hung. -
Southern banning
Southern states banned the abolitionalists. They didn't want any anitslavery propoganda. -
Territory
Mexico gave land to america after the war. They debated about allowing slavery on the new land. -
Harriet Tubman
She escaped from her master using the underground railroad. She came back over fifteen times to help others escape. -
Compromise.
The compromise of 1850, in exchange for California being a free state, led the northeners to accept a harsher fugitive slave act. -
Uncle Tom
He publishes a book about Harriet Tubman and about how unfairly slaves are treated and sells over three-hundred-thousand in the first year. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Kansas-Nebraska Act get more attention than the Missouri act because Kansas and Nebraska get to chose between a free state and a slave state. Because of this, voilence starts to occur. -
Decisions
The Supreme Court says, seven to two, that blacks can not be citizens ever. And that congress has no power to outlaw slavery. -
Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln becomes the first Republican to win presidency. -
Cival War
War breaks out for four years. -
Emancipation
Emancipation Proclomation by Abraham lincoln says that all slaves on "rebel" territory are free. -
The 13th Amendment
Slavery is abolished!
