A letter from the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to Baron Rothschild, a Leader of the British Jewish community, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. Relates to anti-semitism in Middle East. -
Palestine become British Mandate
After WWI, League of NAtions gave Britain control of Palestine. British decided to seperate parts of Palestine for Jewish and Arab settlements. During 1930s more European Jews immigrated to Palestine because of Nazi persecution. -
Holocaust
Genocides in hwich approximately 6 milion Jews were killed by the Nazi Regime and its collaborators. Some historians, use a definition of the Holocaust that includes the additional five million non-jewish victims of Nazi mass murders, bringing total to 11 million. Killers took place in Nazi Germany and Germany occupied territories. Anti-semitism was throughout Europe and the Middle East that led to Zionism. -

It resulted in Israel seizing the Gaza Strip & the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, Golan Heights from Syria, & the West Bank & eastern Jerusalem from Jordan. -
Arab Oil Embargo
This was a direct result of U.S. being involved in and supporting Israel. They had 2 choices; to change their lifestyles, or either find alternative sources, which is the Alaska Pipeline. The price of oil was rising. -
Yom Kippur War
It began when the Arab coalition launched a joint surprise attack on Israeli positions in the Israeli-occupied territories on Yom Kippur. It resulted in Egypt & Syria attacking Israel to regain lost land in the Six-Day war. U.S. is also aiding Israel. -
Jimmy Carter Becomes President
During his presidency, he pursued the Camp David Accords and also completed the Panama Canal Treaties. To end his years in office, he returned the Panama Canal Zone. -
The Alaskan Pipeline
It stretched for 800 miles, trandsportin crude oil from the oil fields at Prudhoe Bay on Alaska's North Slope. It was built after the oil embargo of 1973 because of oil being very scarce in the U.S. due to the cutoff of this resource from the middle east. -
Camp David Accords
Signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime minister Menachen Begin folllowing twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David. The two fameworkd were signed at the whitehous, and were witnessed by U.S. president Jimmy Carter. The second of these frameworks led directly to the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace treaty. Sudat and Begin received the shared 1978 Nobel peace prize. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
Diplomatic crisis between Iran and the U.S. 52 american dipolmats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days, after a group of Iranian students, belonging to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's line, who were supporting the Iranian Revolution, took over U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Jimmy Carter called the hostages "victims of terroism and anarchy." -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
At the end of December 1979, the Soviet Union sent thousands of Troops into Afghanistan and immediately assumed complete military and political control of Kabul and large portions of the country. This event began a brutal, decade-long attempt by Moscow to subdue the Afghan civil war and maintain a friendly and socialist government on its border. The U.S. and its European allies stopped them. -

He was the 42nd president. He presided over the longest period of peacetime economic expansion in American history. He signed into law the North American Free Trade Agreement. He wanted to create peace in the middle east with foreign policies. A foreign policy that would promote the interests of American buisness abroad. -
