    Containment Policy
    The containment policy started with the diplomat George Keenan who sort a way to stifle the communist expansion throughout east Europe. After the long telegram in Feb 1946 it became evident to Truman that a policy had to of been introduced to take action. Due to the aggressive enforcement of the containment policy spefically in wars such as the Korean and Vietnamese war it resulted in thousands of deaths and unstable counties that that originally intended to be peaceful.

    The Nuclear Arms Race
    The start of the Arms race started when the Manhattan project commenced in 1939 when America decided to make the first Nuclear Weapon. The detonation of the first bomb was at the Trinity test site in New Mexico and this test confirmed that this was the most dangerous weapon in the world. August 6, 1945, America dropped the atom bomb on the city of Hiroshima. Us tried to keep their bomb making a secret but Russian spies found out so Staling started his own Nuclear Weapon making.

    The Korean war was established due to the disagreement between the people of North Korea which were democratic, and the rival, the republic of Korea. This war resulted in the death of 5 million people. 10 % of Korea's pre war population died. Almost 40,000 Americans died in action in Korea, and more than 100,000 were wounded.

    Espionage 1 - American Spy Plane Incident
    The 1960 U-2 during the Cold War on the 1st of may 1960, this was during the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower and during the leadership of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. On this day a United States U-2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union. At first the united states government denied the incident. But was later forced to admit its role asa covert surveillance aircraft when the Soviet government produced plane remains and the surviving pilot.

    Berlin Wall Arises
    The Berlin Wall was a monstrous barrier that divided West Berlin and East Berlin from 1961 all the way until 1989. The wall was constructed by the German Democratic Republic. On the 12th of August 1961, the wall was built and it completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin until government officials opened it in November 1989. Its official demolitions didn't start until the 13th of June 1990 and was completed in 1992.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most recognized moments throughout the cold war. The crisis started on the 14th of October 1962 and it ended 14 days later on the 28th. It was lead by the two major super powers of their time, being the United States of America and the Soviet Union. As both sides were demanding various assurances the Americans were unable to fix the situation without breaking quarantine, without the threat of the soviets laughing their missiles. So America had to budge.

    This policy was seen as a cooling off and a relaxation period between the soviets and the Americans which started in 1969. Policy was created by Richard Nixon in 1969. Was created to combat and prevent a nuclear war between the Soviets and the USa.

    On November 9, 1989, as the Cold War began to thaw across Eastern Europe, the spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party announced a change in his city's relations with the west. Starting at midnight that day, he said that the citizens of the GDR were free to cross the country's borders.
