    On October 13, 2010, a coronial inquest was led by the State Coroner Michael Barnes begins. The inquest was held in Maroochydore and Brisbane. The Morecombe’s new purpose in life is to put themselves out there so everyone knows that if they are going through the same thing that they are not alone and Bruce and Denise will help anyone out who is in need. They also want to stop child abuse as much as they can as no one should go through what they were put through for nine years.
  • Brett Peter Cowan Arrested

    Brett Peter Cowan Arrested
    August 13, 2011 came and Brett Peter Cowan, aged 41, was arrested and charged for the murder of Daniel Morcombe. Police and State Emergency Service volunteers search a nearby bushland in the Sunshine Coast hinterland as part of the investigation. Over the next two months, a pair of shoes and human bones are then discovered. DNA came back and the results confirmed that they bones were Daniel Morecombe’s.

    After the long wait that the Morecombe’s had to find their boy they could finally bury what was left of him. The funeral was on the 7th of December 2012 at St Catherine of Siena Church at Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast. It was exactly nine years to the day since he had disappeared. He was then laid to rest at Woombye Cemetery. Daniel’s parents new focus after laying their son to rest was to see Cowan charged and in jail for what he had done to Daniel.

    The day after Cowan was put as guilty he was then sentenced to life in jail with a minimum non-parole period of 20 years for the murder of Daniel Morcombe. The Supreme Court Judge Roslyn Atkinson says Cowan’s crimes were “horrific and disgraceful” and that he “tragically and pointlessly snuffed out a young life”.

    The parents Denise and Bruce Morcombe started the Foundation as well as started Day for Daniel. Day for Daniel is always on the 30th of October of every year. To this very day both Denise and Bruce still have nightmare and wonder how Daniel ever deserved to go the way he did.
