Gideon v. Wainwright
Lawrence Gideon was charged with breaking and entering and robbery at a local bar. He did not have the money to pay for an attorney, leaving him to defend himself in court. He was found guilty, but his case was later appealed for having no lawyer. States are now required to provide an attorney for those who cannot afford one. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
African-americans wanted equal rights between them and whites. Martin Luther King Jr. was a big advocate in the movement. -
Medicare
Congress created medicare to provide health insurance for those over 65. Regardless of income or medical history, everyone has health insurance. -
Medicaid
Health program for families with low income. Provides medical care to those who cannot afford it. -
Watergate Affair
Affair began with the arrest of five individuals for breaking and entering into DNC headquarters at Watergate. Evidence was later found pointing to the president's staff. -
Clinton Impeachment
Bill Clinton was impeached from presidency. He was not convicted at his impeachment trial, but later, all of his wrong-doings had been forgiven. -
9/11
Two planes crashed into the twin towers in New York City early morning on September 11. This has become a national rembemberence day.
