First Continental Congress
All colonies but Georgia went to this Congress in Philadelphia in 1774 to determine how the colonies should react to what, from their viewpoint, seemed to pose an alarming threat to their rights and liberties; no talk of secession from England, just wanted to protest parliamentary acts and restore the relationship they had with Britain before the French and Indian War -
Second Continental Congress
They appointed Washington as the head general. They created an army. They wrote the Articles of Confederation. -
Olive Branch Petition
A petition asking the King for protection against parliament and reiterated their allegiance to England. -
Prohibitory Act
Parliament passed the Prohibitory Act, which instituted a naval blockade of all American ports and halted the colonies’ trade with the world and among each other. -
Declaration of Independence
Alos as know as the breakup note. It didn't actually give the colonists their independence.
