Slavery
Slavery was first established in GA in 1779 before the royal colony period began. Then just started progressing from there. -
Gettysburg
Union and Confederate forces clash in west Gettysburge, Pennslyviania by day 3 over 45,000 were dead. By day 2,union forces began to back confederates up to "devil's den" and little round top but confederates held union back. At the end of the war, President Lincoln gave the "Gettysburg Address" & a cemetary was built in memory of those who died. -
The Missouri Compromise
The missouri compromise was a two-part solution. Missouri was admitted to the US as a salve state and California was admitted as a free state. Congress agreed slavery wasn't allowed past the 36 degree 30 line of latitude. -

IT admitted California as a free state. Abolished slavery in the District of Columbia. Created a stronger fugitive slave lw, Lets the territories of New Mexico and Utah make their own decisions about slavery. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
The KANSAS-NEBRASKA ACT OF 1854 may have been the single most significant event leading to the Civil War. By the early 1850s settlers and entrepreneurs wanted to move into the area now known as Nebraska. Just when things between the north and south were in an uneasy balance, Kansas and Nebraska opened fresh wounds. -
Dred Scott Case
The court declared that all blacks -- slaves as well as free -- were not and could never become citizens of the United States. The court also declared the 1820 Missouri Compromise unconstitutional, thus permiting slavery in all of the country's territories.. -
Election of 1860
President Abe Lincoln was elected to office & the first southern state suceeded from the union. -
13th Amendment
this amendment bans slavery. -
Freedman's Bureau
Freedman's Bureau was established to help newly released slaes & poor white with everyday challenges.They established schools, teacher-training institutions & etc. -
Ku Klux Klan (KKK)
This was the most dangerous secret society to the arican americans in this time period. It was started u Tennesse by Confederate Forces war vetrans.On Sept. 19, 1868, vilence broke out in Camilla, GA, up to 400 Afican American Republicans came to Camilla with weapons to protection & a major fight broke out . & the african american begin to fled over 30 were killed . -
14th Amendment
Gave everyone the right to vote. -
Lugenia Burns Hope
A friend of Booker T. Washington but also disagreed with him. She was involved in many progressive programs in Chicago. Also involved in pushing for education in the black community. She was mixed, having a black mother and white father. -
15th Amendment
Gave the right to vote, no one can be denied the right to vote by law. -
Alexander Stephens
He became the vice-president of the Conderacy during the Civil War. He was well known throughout the south. -
Plessy vs. Ferguson
Homer Plessy bought a train tickett to travel to Covington. Because he was 7/8 white & 1/8 black he sat in the 'whites only' section. He was refused to move & was then arrested because of the "Jim Crow Car Act of 1890" . Court ruled "seperate but equal' was not unconstitutional. -
Booker T. Washington
He was born into slavery. He was educated in one of Freedma's shools. He also gave a very famous speech in a cotton state on negro problems. He believed that African Americans had to earn the respect and the right to demand equality. -
W.E.B. Du Bois
He disagreed with Washington's strategy.He believed African Amereicans should recieve the same education as whites. He was also a highly respected sociology professor. He also started the movement of the NAACP. -
Race Riot
When 3 blacck men were accused of killing some white women. Women men became enraged & just started killing blacks. -
Leo Frank
Leo Frank was a jewish pencil factory owner, Mary Phagen, was killed, she'd been sexually assaulted & brutally murdered . Leo Frank was sentecned to death, but then his sentence was changed to life in prison with the help of Govenor John M. Watson. This enraged the people of Marietta . 1915, Leo was kidnapped & hung by the people of Marietta. -
Great Depression
After war, many soldiers came home doing well, but it begin to change. Many stock markets crashed, to much overproduction, everyone credit dropped, businesses began to lay off, many workers an families suffered by this. -
Rebecca L. Felton
First woman to serve as a US senate. Only remaning in office for 24 hours before the next senate was sworn into office. -
Drought
Lack of rain over long period of time. Lack of faud Agricultural businesses struggles. -
WWII
The United States begin preparing for the world war against the Germany & Russia. The war was fought for 3 years after the US joined. On May 8, 1945, Germany surrendered, day later named a V-E Day, Victory in Europe. -
State Flag
The Georgian state flag changed. -
'96 Atlanta Summer Olympics
Maynord Jackson spoke on the Olympic conference to ask for the games to be held in Atlanta. Over $5 BILLION was brung into GA from the olympian games. The games also brought international recongization.
