    The Three Governor's Controversy is what brough Herman Talmadge into office as Georgia's governor. On the original ballad, his father, Eugene Talmadge, was written. His father did win, but died before the inauguration. But Melvin Thompson, who was against the Talmadge's, had just been elected lieutenant governor and said that he was also governor. Talmadge ended up winning.

    The SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) started as a student meeting at Shaw University that was organized by Ella Baker. It soon grew into an organization that held many protests like sit-ins and freedom rides.

    The Sibley Commission was created by Governor Vandiver. He was forced to either desegregate schools or close them. When UGA brought in Holmes and Hunter, Vandiver ordered UGA to be closed. Many did not want to close the school since members of the Commission were grads there.

    Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter had filed a law suit for not being accepted into UGA because of their skin color. They had won the case, and became the first African American students to attend the college.
