    This started when the mayor Eugene Talmadge died. His supporters decided to "write in" Eugene's son, Herman Talmadge, to office. At the same time the lieuteneant govenor claimed the office because of the death of the actual govenor. The out going govenor Ellis Arnall also refused to leave office. In the primary Ellis ARnall won.

    The group was created after Ernest Vandiver was forced to either close schools or desegregate them.
  • Albany Movement

    Albany Movement
    The Albany Movement began fall of 1961. It was the first mass movement in modern civil rights. It's goal was to end segregation in the community, but it ended up with the jailing of over 1,000 African Americans including the jailing of Martin Luther King Jr. The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Commitee (SNCC) persuaded students also to go against Albanies segregation policies. After this the SNCC continued this.

    Hartsfield-Jackson International airport is named after the mayor because he helped arrange the plan to build the busiest airport in the world.
