    Holmes and Hunter's classes were registered in UGA. They were the first African American students to be admitted to UGA.They had filed a lawsuit for racial discrimination against UGA and they won the case.

    Lester Maddox was elected governor. He was against the civil rights movement, was a major segregationalist, and he refused to serve African Americans in his restaurant in Atlanta.
