MIA Formed
In December on 1955 the Montgomery Improvement Association was formed after Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the "white" part of the bus. This association was very important because a year after it was formed the buses quit segregating seats.

Southern Christian Leadership Conference Formed
In 1957 6 black ministers formed the SCLC to continue the fight for black's rights. This was important because they were continuing to fight against segregation and because a year later they were recieved by Eisenhower. Martin Luther King Jr. -
King Travels to India
In 1959 King traveled to India to visit Gandhi and learn his nonviolent ways. This was important because later the nonviolence got many people from the opposing side to join the colored people in their fight.

First Sit-in Happens
In February 1960 the first sit-in happened in North Carolina. This was a nonviolent boycott that was important because it stopped businesses and got the attention of both sides.

Sit-in Spreads
In August of 1960 the sit-ins had spread to 27 states. This was important because it spread the nonviolence not only to just sit-ins, but boycotts and public transportation too.

The Races March
In August of 1963 250,000 white and black people assembled for a massive rally. This was important because it showed that what King was fighting for was really working.
