Building the school
A man named Dr. Thomas Webb gives MIT volumes of US Patent Office and Smithsonian Institution Reports in order to help start the schools libary. The school now has over 2 million printed books. -
Architecture proposal
Professor William Ware proposes "An Outline of the Course of Instruction in Building and Architecture". This proposal now serves as the basses of all architecture classes thought in the USA -
Girls Girls Girls
MIT hires their first female employee to work at the Institute. Her name was Margaret Stinson her job was to oversee the supply room. -

Wares proposal for architecture classes goes though and architecture classes began being taught at MIT. These were the first classes of their kind in America. -

In 1873 Ellen Swallow was the first ever female to graduate from MIT.
She later became the first female instructor. -
Roger's death
William Rogers, who started the school, dies while giving a speech at commencement. -

Albert Wells makes the first ever wind tunnel while at MIT. He used the schools ventilation system to make it. -

MITs first computer was built by Professor Bush. He called it the "Product Integraph" -

Professor Hottel creates the first ever solar house in the U.S. He called his invention the "Solar I". -
A new computer
The frist digital computer at MIT is developed under the name "Project Whirlwind". -
SAGE System
The SAGE system was developed at the Lincoln Lab at MIT as an effort to creat a "semi automatic ground environment". While making the systems new break throughs were discoved. These new breakthoughs helped to develop what we consider the modern computer. -
TX-0
The TX-0 was built in the Lincoln lab and was one of the first highspeed computer that also had a memory drive. This computer and its developments later were platforms for "hacker culture" -
MITR-1
MIT creats the MITR-1, a research nuclear reactor. The MITR-1 is the second largest research nuclear reactor in the U.S. -
MIT and NASA
AUG 1961
NASA contracted MIT to help them design a new system to navigate and guide their spaceships. These systems were used for the Apollo space missions. -
TV
MIT transmits the first TV picture by using a satellite. The transmission wasnt much, just the letters MIT, but it was the first time it had ever been done. -
Computer Learning
MIT wanted to try to teach their students using computers, they started the Athena Project which used computers to help in learning. -
