    Soon missionaries started to take interest into east Texas. The missionaries followed the El Camino Real and founded San Fransisco de la Tejas once the reached a spot that satisfied them.

    Hidalgo took part in the founding of San Juan Bautista on the year of 1700.

    Many east Texas missions were forced to vacate in 1719 because of the French, but those that occupied the missions returned when it was safe and restored their missions.

    Some native americans were warming up to the idea of missions and requested some missionaries to build some in there area. The missionaries were pleased at the idea and soon Nuestra Senora de los Dolores del Rio de San Xavier was built.

    To even out the French influence over Southeast Texas, missionaries made Nuestra Senora de la Luz del Orcoquisac in 1756 conveniently located by the Trinity River.

    Jose de Escandon founded Nuevo Santander that was built along the Panuco and Guadalupe rivers.

    A conflict between a tribe and a mission made a mission close down. When the tribe attacked, the nearest presidio (Presidio de San Luis de las Amarillas) was 4 miles away and too late to help.

    Old mission buildings around the area were used to house some Spanish soldiers.

    The El Paraje del Refugio was abandoned as a result of native american attacks and conflict within the missions showing that not only the natives, but those who in the mission created trouble for them.
