Mission San Diego is founded
On July 17th Father Serra founded mission San Diego de Alcala. -

The churh burned down. Fr. Luis Jayme died. -

The church was replaced by a wider adobe church. -
Building the courtyard
Most of the other buildings were arranged in a quadrangle around the courtyard. -

Sixy-five indians were baptised. -

In 1803 the new church was damaged by an earthquake. -

The mission was running out of water so they built a dam to get water resource. -
Rebuilt church again
In 1813 they rebuild the church over again. -
Mission power reduced
The power of the mission was reduced because Mexico won the war of independence against Spain. -
The mission was given to Santiago Arguello
The mission was given to Santiago Arguello for government services. -
The mission now goes to the U.S. military
The mission was given to the U.S. goverment as a military base. -

The mission is destroyed. Many people believe it is because the military destroyed structures. -

In 1860 Abraham Lincoln signed a document to give 22 acres back to the mission. -

Father Anthony Ubach from St. Joseph's chapal made orders to rebuild the mission. -
Padre Anthony died
Padre Anthony died in 1907. -
Rebuilding stopped

Minor Basilica
Pope Paul VI declared the mission a minor basilica. -
Today
Today the mission is an active parish and is being excavated.
