After 5 years of strong tensions on the Korean peninsula, The war began when the Northern Korean People's Army invaded South Korea in a coordinated general attack at several strategic points along the 38th parallel which was the line dividing North Korea who were communist and South Korea who weren’t. The U.S. helped South Korea in this war with aid. But the war ended in case of fire, and a formal peace treaty was never signed. -
Space Race/Sputnik
The Space Race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to achieve milestones in space exploration. Sputnik was the name of the first artificial satellite, launched from a site now known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Soviet Kazakhstan Into space by the Soviet Union which marked the beginning of the Space Age and ignited the Space Race between the U.S. and Soviet Union. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was a failed military invasion of Cuba by a group of Cuban exiles which was supported by the U.S.. The goal was to overthrow the Cuban government led by Fidel Castro. But the invasion was unsuccessful which resulted in a significant defeat for the exiles. -
