  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    A rivalry between the English and the French, it was a war fought in Europe from 1754-1763. This war can be known as the Seven Years War. The English were concerned about the French building forts in the Ohio River Valley, and the English wanted to expand westward of it. George washington led a battle in the Ohio River Valley against the French. They were defeated by the French and Indians but even then George Washington was seen as a hero for being the first to stand up for the colonies.

    The French lost Canadian colonies and claims land east of the Mississippi river. England got all French Territory in Canada, Florida and rights to the Caribbean slave trade. Spain got French territory west of the Mississippi River and New Orleans.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    This is the proclamation that the English issued to stop further westward expansion. They also issued new taxes on colonies to pay for the war. The colonists protested and the sons of liberty were formed.
  • Stamp Act

    This act was put into place after the French and Indian war to make the colonist pay taxes to pay for the war. Merchants and lawyers are required to to buy stamps for ships papers and legal documents. Taxes required for Tavern owners for licenses, printers for newspapers. The stamp tax was not expensive but it was the concept that upset the colonists.

    confrontation between the colonists and the British which British soldiers shot and killed several colonists while being harassed by a mob in boston. The soldiers tried and found guilty of manslaughter, but called murder by colonial propaganda.

    Proposed by Samuel Adams, the leader of the resistance movement and Boston. It proposed the creation of such committees in boston to publicize the grievances against england throughout the colony. It was overall just a propaganda campaign.

    This was a protest against the British's tea act tax. The protest was organized by the sons of liberty which were a group formed after the French and Indian war to boycott taxes. They protested by dumping tea in the harbor in boston. They started drinking coffee
  • Intolerable acts

    Intolerable acts
    These were acts declared by England as a punishment for the Boston Tea Party. They closed the harbor, Massachusetts Government Act, which replaced the elective local government with an appointive one and increased the powers of the military governor. and the Quartering act which allowed British soldiers to come and stay in any colonists home and the colonists had to allow them.
  • Lexington and Concord

    This is the battle that set off the revolutionary war, it was fought in the province of massachusetts bay. 73 British soldiers were killed, and 174 were wounded. This was seen as a very big win for the Americans and showed the British that unjust behavior will not be tolerated in the colonies.

    The battle of bunker hill was fought during the siege of Boston during the beginning of the revolutionary war. This battle was because the patriots wanted to delay a British attack but instead invoked one. At the end of this battle the British gained the Charleston peninsula.

    This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine, it was advocating for independence from England. He wrote clean political arguments and was persuasive on why they would benefit from being independent. This got around to everyone in the colonies

    This was a document created by the 13 colonies declaring that they wanted independence from Great Britain. The authors of this were Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert R. Livingston. At the very end of the document it was signed by many people. This was when America's independence was finalized
  • Battle of Trenton

    This battle was small but significant to the revolutionary war. Washington crossed the Delaware, but the British Hessian army was crushed during his cross of the river. This was another win for the Americans which made it a significant turning point in the revolutionary war.

    Winter encampment, the American trained to become a professional army, but because it was winter they all got sick. This camp was run by George Washington

    This battle is significant to america during the revolutionary war because it got the French, Spanish, and Dutch to join their cause against a mutual rival against the British. This battle was in New York. The British lost this battle making it another win for the colonies

    This battle was fought in cowpens North Carolina during the revolutionary war. It was between the British and the Americans, it was significant because after the British surrendered it gave the American soldiers confidence that they could win the war.

    This battle was fought in Yorktown, Virginia, it was the British vs the Americans during the revolutionary war, this battle was led by general George Washington. The Americans won this battle with the help of the French forcing the British to surrender

    This is a treaty that ended the revolutionary war. It was signed in Paris by representatives of King George III and Representatives of The United States. This was one of the most important documents because after all of the battles the revolutionary war was finally over.
