Leonardo Da Vinci wrote a discription of a submarine. But in 1620 Cornelius Van Drebbel invented it.

Invented in 1776 by David Buschnell. It was used by the Colonial Army in an attempt to sink the HMS Eagle. First submarine to be used for combat.

German U-boats

Were some of the first submarines to use diesel engines. It made their range and size much greater.

USS Nautilus

First nuclear submarine, allowing submarines to be under water for indefinite amounts of time.

"Tear Drop"

Was a new design for a submarine. Reduced water resistance in doing so creating better underwater speed and maneuverability.
